The ocean here has the warmest water I’ve ever been in. When it is pre-dawn, and there’s a cool
breeze on the air, the water at the beach actually felt warm, warmer
than the air.
It was a pretty darn good couple of days at the beach. There was some misadventure on the way
there. We got off the bus in the wrong
town (I suggested we ask the driver if we were in the right place, but then I
gave in to my sheepish instincts and followed my companions off the bus without
asking), which meant we missed our intended connector bus, and so had to wait
an unexpected 3 hours in an intermediate location, and arrived there later than
planned. But, I was of course in the
water that night, and again the next morning.
As per usual I was up by about 4:30am, and was on the beach and in the
water by 5am. I was the first person
out there. The moon was still up and
the main light on the water when I got in, and I stayed in until the rays of
the sun hit me for the first time, at about 6:20am. The second morning I woke
up even earlier, and went into the water nude.
I’ve never been naked in the ocean.
It was pretty awesome.
Also had a fun encounter and made a new friend there. A man my father’s age. Polish, but born in England, early childhood
in Argentina, now lives in Quebec, and works as a Spanish translator. And has as good or better a vocabulary in
English than I do, shares a love of words, and a love of poetry, thought he has
a lot more memorized than I do. He was
one of the first other people on the beach, and we got to talking. His name is Francis. It was a lovely addition to the trip.
When I was leaving the farm, I was excited about sleeping
later and about getting to eat food we don’t have here. But once I was out there, I woke up early
anyway, and I found I mostly just missed the food here. Lunch today on the farm was so good, I told
Mariska that I was sorry, but I’d be taking Vincent home with me (he was the
chef). She laughed and said I might as
well add him to my roster of partners. J
If I can find the money, I’ll be leaving the farm on the 8th
now. I’m actually pretty sad about
it! I sosososo wish I could stay here
longer or the whole time! But I’m sure
I’ll end up feeling the same about the next place. J Still, means I have to pack soon, and say good
bye to people, which will be difficult.
My map of sea surface temperatures shows that the ocean off Costa Rica is sitting right at 90 degrees. That is really warm water. The last time you were in water that warm was in Papua New Guinea. I'm sure you remember that!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! That sounds delightful. Exactly what a Costa Rican adventure should hold. :-)
